Carrots & Kale Juice

I have Bloat Coat. There I said it… We all know what I am referring to, even if you haven’t heard that term before (Thanks TMZ). It’s the layer of “bloat” that creeps up after a few days of overindulgence. A few too many glasses of wine here, a few too many second helpings there, or having dessert with every dinner for a week, and voila , it appears. Creeping around your midsection, forcing you to take a deep breath before zipping up your jeans, and demanding a huge sigh as the zipper finally makes it all the way up.  I have it…and I’m trying to get rid of it.

Here are a few steps I’ve been  following this week to remove said Bloat Coat:

Step 1: Find my loose fitting jeans, and hope the term “loose” still applies when I put them on

Step 2: Start off my mornings with hot water and lemon. A great way to wake up your system and the lemon will help the detox process

Step 3: After Step 2, my breakfast consists of fruit or juicing fruit and veggies into a wonderful green, healthy drinkjuice2

Step 4: Proceed with my day, and try not to eat too much, sit for too long, and drink lots of lemon water along the way

Step 5: Get back in my normal exercise routine, and step it up a bit to counter act my sedentariness from the prior week

Step 6: Sleep. Get back on my normal sleeping schedule, and try to stick to it.

I’ve been following these steps, and I’m pretty close to being back to normal. A few more days, and I should be there.

For Step 3, the juice  is a combination of my favorite juice-able fruit and veggies, which will helpfully restore some of the vitamins and nutrients lost during the overindulgence. Don’t let the celery and kale fool you, the juice is sweetened from the apples and carrots, and has a nice spicy kick from the ginger. Feel free to add, remove, increase or decrease any amounts of ingredients, as you should make a juice you want to drink.

Another thing: I am in desperate need of  this juicer.

juice3Carrots & Kale Juice

Makes about 8oz

3-4 medium carrots, tops cut off, and cut into thirds
2 gala or green apples, chuncked
3-4 stalks of celery, cut into thirds
1″ ginger, peeled
1-2 c kale, curly works best, I think

Juice ingredients, stir and enjoy!

  1. I struggle with belief in detox (like I struggle with the infallibility of the Pope, Republicans’ “core values” and string theory) but this looks delicious & I need this right now, too.

      I agree, detoxing seems a bit iffy to me… like the master cleanse? That just sounds crazy. But juicing is just plain fun!
