Chocolate Banana Shake

We’ve all been there before. Staring at the food you have to use up before leaving for a work trip or vacation. Seeing all the dollars you will be wasting if you don’t consume it all prior to heading to the airport. I’m doing this right now. I’m in my kitchen. Staring. The already somewhat-brown bananas, my container constantly full of arugula, sweet potatoes that have probably been there too long already. I see them all, and I have to think of something to do with them.

Rather then sitting and constantly eating for the 48 hours leading up to my trip (not ideal before heading somewhere  a bathing suit is required), I am coming up with some healthy non-over-indulgent ways to use up my produce. One way would be this shake. The half full containers of almond milk and Greek yogurt, that will not survive my absence, I thought would pair nicely with bananas, coco powder and a touch of oatmeal. This would be a great way to curb an afternoon chocolate craving, which tends to hit me daily, and would work as a breakfast shake as well. Or, if you are so inclined, add a scoop of protein powder or peanut butter and use as a recovery shake after a workout.

Chocolate Banana Shake shakestarters

Makes 1 Shake

1 banana, sliced
1 c vanilla almond milk
1/4 c plain Greek yogurt
1/2 tbsp coco powder
1 tbsp gluten free rolled oats
1/4 c ice

Put all ingredients together in a blender, blend until smooth.

If you are using an unsweetened milk, add in 1 tsp of a natural sweetener like honey or agave.
