24 Diner – Austin, Texas
I had 2 great Vegan burgers while in Austin, the most unique one was from 24 Diner.
The Housemade veggie patty combines beets, mushrooms, lentils, rice, pumpkin seeds & golden flaxseeds to make for a tasty, Vegan and very different veggie burger. Black bean burgers just get so boring after awhile. 24 Diner makes a similar veggie breakfast sausage patty if you are in the mood for a Vegan breakfast treat on your visit, so keep that in mind.
For the burger, the patty is normally served on a Pain au lait bun, but seeing that is not Vegan they happily swapped it out for me. I also removed the fontina cheese, but left on the fresh poblano, red bell peppers, red onion, jalapeños, avocado and herb-lime vinaigrette.
24 Diner has amazing food. I’ve been there as a Vegan now and in previous years as a Pescetarian. Last year I tried the Charred Bitters Salad and it took alot of will power to not order it again this year. The Charred Bitters Salad was the best grilled salad I have ever had, period.
As dumb as it sounds, I will admit that always forget that 24 Diner is open 24 hours a day when I am intoxicated and leaving late night shows during SXSW…
