Super Green Morning Smoothie

Need a morning pick-me-up? One that is non-caffeinated and has all sorts of goodness blended into a smooth puree of sweet, delicious, green (sort of) liquid? Well, I have just the thing you are looking for… Not really a juice, not so much a smoothie, but a super tasty way to start your morning.

We’ve post a good number of smoothies and juices in the past, but since getting my Vitamix, I’ve been making these babies left and right. An easy way to get a huge does of veggies out of the way, with the added benefit of giving you a large boost of energy to go out and tackle whatever comes your way.

If you are worried a drink this green will taste like lawn clippings, don’t fret. The apple and pineapple juice are in there not just for health reasons, but to add sweetness and tone down the bitterness of the kale and spinach. If this isn’t filling enough for you in the morning, grab a handful of almonds or cashews to enjoy after drinking your breakfast. If you want to use this as a post work out drink, add a half scoop of protein powder, just be sure to up the water so it doesn’t turn out thick and gloppy.

(Side note: this a good way to kick start a week after a long weekend of boozing and eating too much. I speak from experience.)

Super Green Morning Smoothie

1 serving

1/4 c water
1/4 c pineapple juice
2 handfuls of spinach
1 torn handful of kale
1 medium banana
1 medium apple

Stick all ingredients in your blender and let ’em rip.
