Cooking and baking relax me, so it makes me so very happy to be back in the kitchen and back at the blogging. It’s been a active 2014 so far between a busy job, a broken finger and the annual Austin trip for SXSW, but I’m back home now and thankfully the finger is on the mend. Juicing was a part of my weekday routine about 3 months ago; I would get up and make my green juice or smoothie every morning to start off my day. There was always bunches of kale, bags of carrots and loads of apples in my fridge and a few other random items that I would decided to throw in the juicer if the mood struck. Seeing as how life and work tend to get in the way of healthy habits , juicing slipped out of my daily routine and the juicer crept back into my cabinet and stayed there. With my 2014 resolution to get back into my kitchen more, the juicer has made a triumphant return, and is now running at 8am every morning.
Here at Fried Tofu we have unfortunately fallen sick as of late; Susan coming down with a stress and lack of sleep related head cold in August (?!?) and Morgan thinking she had appendicitis and going through many tests in the ER one day (turned out to be something else, not just in her head), then was slammed with seasonal allergies. Fortunately we are getting better thanks to some of our remedies listed here in our Friday Top Five. This is what makes us feel better when we are sick or just plain stressed out. I have Bloat Coat. There I said it… We all know what I am referring to, even if you haven’t heard that term before (Thanks TMZ). It’s the layer of “bloat” that creeps up after a few days of overindulgence. A few too many glasses of wine here, a few too many second helpings there, or having dessert with every dinner for a week, and voila , it appears. Creeping around your midsection, forcing you to take a deep breath before zipping up your jeans, and demanding a huge sigh as the zipper finally makes it all the way up.
